Match Preview: Round 10 Richmond vs Essendon | MCG

By Sweep

I’m still pinching myself following last weeks, formidable display – but I’m very wary not to take the lid off just yet. The proverbial lid is something that is well known to Tiger fans over the years. The moment they let themselves feel a sense of excitement, the lid is usually ripped off and shattered along with their finals hopes. I approach this week hesitant and cautious. Beware of the wounded tiger.

Form lines.

Richmond have lost 4 on the trot. The last two have come in the dying seconds of the game. They’re hurting as a team. Looking at the teams they have beaten, one does wonder however if they are just pretenders. They are yet to beat anyone of note. They won their first 5 before being thumped in round 6 by the rampaging Crows.

For the Dons, we are up and about. There is no doubt about it. This is always a dangerous time for supporters. You can easily be lulled into a false sense of security on the back of two very good performances. The Bombers have looked legitimate against two very good footy teams, and have pretty much swept them both aside.

The danger man.

Dustin Martin. He is a prolific ball winner and is hard at it. He has the tatts to prove it. He also has one of the worst haircuts in the league. Approach with caution, this Tiger will take some stopping! He needs to be shut down early. I think Darcy Parish has the speed and footy brain to go with him. Or throw Walla in there, he is tougher than Dusty and quicker too! It might be a good thing that he has been linked to the Dons throughout the week?

The money

Probably a good one to avoid this week I reckon. No need to put your mortgage on this game. But if you’re keen, Essendon over 15.5 points is currently paying around $2.80 which is not bad value. Perhaps look to multi this one with something else.

The conclusion

Both teams will go into this game almost inseparable. The Tigers have just missed the last two, and have been uninspiring. They are due to turn it around at some point, but I don’t think it’ll be this week. They do have a good recent record against the mighty Dons, but this is the week it ends.

Essendon to win by 1 point after the siren. Matty Dea will dob one from 50 meters. Oh the theatre!
